Hi, I want to create a Elder Dragon Highlanderdeck (just for the fun of it) but I have no clue who my legend will be.
Thus, I am looking for an interesting legend to create a highlanderdeck around.
Format: Highlander, Type I, 100 cards
The Elder Dragon (must be a legend) starts the game outside the game. It can be played from there for its mana-cost and if it ever dies or gets shuffled back, it returns there. You can pay for it again, but you have to pay 2 mana extra. The 2 mana is cumulative.
Your deck consists of the colors of that legend (and only the colors of that legend!)
You name the legend, I create the deck. I will create a deck around the most interesting legend that comes up.

Interesting can be either an interesting effect or an interesting combination of colors.

You could take a 5-color Legend, but then you might end up with a lame combo deck that completely ignores your General.
I know that Doran is quite a formidable General, and I have proven myself that Rakdos is a killer 1 on 1.
You could take an Invasion Dragon, or perhaps go with a wacky General like Kaervek. Or do Solkanar!

The Dragons sound tempting, but what to do with them...
Dromar? (UWB)
Numot? (UWR)
Treva? (UWG)
Numot has a lot more cool cards, but you will probably end up without a basic strategy. Although I can play some of my favourite cards in that.
Treva can become a nice UWG-aggro-deck, which is funny, since nobody expects blue to create an aggrodeck.
Dromar's colors scream to be abused in some way. Possibly making me end up with a controldeck with only Nether Spirit and Dromar for the kills (possibly a Millstone or so too).
I feel kind of UW-ish as the moment, so it would probably turn out to be one of these. Or I could go for Teysa and create a blackwhitemercenaryrebeldeck.

In that case I'd chose Lin-Sivvi as the general legend.
The format definition leaves up some rules questions and issues. What happens to your general legend card if it gets ...
... bounced?
... removed from game?
... phased out?
... suspended?
... under opponent's control?
If all of this returns the general legend to the owner's hand, then it's way too easy to get rid of it.
Next question would be if "leaves play"-, "put into graveyard"- and comes-into-play - effects are still triggered.
Does playing the general legend count as playing from the hand? If so, some of the Myojins are insteresting
Choices:
Sliver Queen - probably without ever actually playing the Queen.
Isamaru, Hound of Konda - should do well in a WW deck with mass destruction like Cataclysm
Arcum Dragsson - Tinker on a stick, should be easy to build a deck around
Godo, Bandit Warlord - with a deck built around Godo, the turn you play him should win you the game (you just need something to give him haste, consider an equipment with haste since Godo will bring one along)
Zur the Enchanter - Evil evil combos possible.
Tsabo Tavoc - May not be the strongest choice but she just owns every opposing general legend^^

the Elder Dragon gets removed from the game, from which you can play it again. That happens whenever it is put into any place where it is not in play.
Lin-Sivvi as a legend for a rebeldeck sounds crappy. Partly because you can't search for her (and thus have to pay five for her the second time, which is an awful lot), partly because you can't play the Rebel Informer.

I was thinking Lin-Sivvi as well, or maybe Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary and a bunch of elves to generate obscene quantities of mana for Helix Pinnacle or something.
I'm not sure how competitive it would be, but the idea of it tempts my inner Johnny.

Rofellos is the only banned Legend in the format. Too bad...
Whenever you Legend is put anywhere that is not in play, you get to choose whether you want it to go there, or to the bench, from where you can play it for 2 more than last time.

Okay, that'll be Lin-Sivi than... Although it's too bad I don't get to play the Rebel Informer... :-S
Maybe I'll still grab Teysa for that reason only... Or the Planar Chaos-dragon that includes Green too, so I can also use Skyshroud Seeker (or whatever his name was).
Why is Rofellos banned? How silly?
Are there any other cards banned?

Wait, I just thought up a cheap infinite-mana-combo with Rofellos... I get why he's banned... But than again. Real Highlanderplayers can't abuse him that much. There's only 10 forests in your deck in that case...
Savannah; Tropical Island; Bayou; Taiga; Temple Garden; Breeding Pool; Overgrown Tomb; Stomping Ground; Forest; Snow-Covered Forest

Basic lands are excluded from the only-one-of rule.
Question:
Am I allowed to have a copy of my general legend in the initial deck? Read: One Lin-Sivvi in the deck and one on the "bench"?

Nope...
And real Highlander only uses one of each basic land too!!

Turn 1: Forest, Concordant Crossroads
Turn 2: Forest, Roflollos, random amount of elves, including Priest of titania.
Turn 3: Forest or Gayass Cradle, perhaps Ashnod's Altar, gee, this is going fast! I bet he's banned for a good reason.
The card you meant was Skyshroud Poacher.
Puschkin, note that the General is the 100th card of the deck, so in fact, you're playing with a 99 cards deck, and a General on the side.

Why use a general anywayz?
What is stopping people from building an ordinary highlander deck working around weaknesses that decks based on using such a dragon have???
If the 100th card must be a dragon, so be it, but who says the deck has to support it?

The spirit of the format does. Otherwise it would just be no fun at all and everybody would play Rec/Sur or 5C-Control.
Maybe the format would be better if the deck minimum size was 60 instead of 100? That way the dragon legend would have more impact.

It doesn't have to be a Dragon, mind you.

I know, I was just keeping the term "elder dragon legend" that BWM used. None of my suggesttions were dragons ;)
