Blanket of Night
Written by Ulrich and Helva

(Turns each mana producing land into a swamp in addition to its normal land type.)
Blanket of Night is a very versatile addition to a black deck. It can be used to boost a Drain Life because every land can produce black mana. It can also make really devastating use of Hecatomb.

In my black and red deck, I play Fallen Angels and then cast Blanket of Night before casting a Kormus Bell. This strategy gives me many more creatures to sacrifice to my Angels as well as giving me reserve blockers should I need them. A note of caution is in order when using Kormus Bell: timing is everything. I usually play Kormus Bell the turn I am going in for the final attack. Once all your lands are 1/1 creatures, a Pyroclasm can shut you down.

Blanket of Night also affects your opponent's lands and opens up lovely swampwalking opportunities.

You could use Blanket of Night with other cards which require disposable creatures, like Skull Catapult, Lord of the Pit, Phyrexian Vault, or even Phyrexian Dreadnought if you are stuck in a long game with no other way out. If you play Meekstone, try a Meekstone/Blanket of Night/Kormus Bell combo for a swarm which will catch your opponent off-guard!
