I have mentioned the Braingeyser in the last two articles I wrote. Although there are those who use this card, I feel that it tends to be overlooked, considering it is an extremely useful out of print rare.
I think I can find room in any blue deck for a Braingeyser. Although is seems that the most common usage of the Braingeyser is to cast it on an opponent after you have played a Black Vise, I almost never play Braingeyser on my opponent. I prefer to use it to get to other combos or single powerful spells to cast.
I use the Braingeyser to refill my hand after I have played all my spells, or to get past the "all land" pull. If you have the mana to cast an effective Braingeyser, even if it means discarding some cards, it can be very useful. Braingeyser can also help you if you don't have much landyou would be discarding anyway if you drew cards one at a time without land, but Braingeyser will allow you to get to your land that much faster. This tends to happen more often in the white and blue decks I play, where I might draw all support cards and no key cards, or if I only pull the cards with the highest casting cost early in the game. Six mana sources are enough for a decent Braingeyser, but not enough to cast some of the big blue or white gamebreakers.
When I am taking a pounding and there are several cards in my deck which would help (but, perversely, I haven't pulled any of them), I will Braingeyser to get to one or more of the needed cards. Play a Library of Leng and you won't have to discard any of your newly acquired goodies.
Of course, if your opponent thinks that a Black Vise is a really cool thing to play, you can Deflect the Braingeyser and make them take the damage. If you already have your blue or white lock down in place, this strategy can often make your opponent invent new swear words on the spot.
