I don't play very many black decks, mainly because one of the strengths of black lies in sacrifice and I prefer not to sacrifice my cards. However, when I do sacrifice something I like to get the greatest possible advantage from the sacrifice.
I find Wicked Reward to be an effective and versatile way to get the most out of a sacrifice. Wicked Reward can be used both offensively and defensively to get in a few more points of damage or to boost a creature enough to allow it to survive an attack or effect. Also, do not underestimate the element of surprise that comes with Wicked Reward, as it is an instant. Your opponent will be prepared for you to use the Fallen Angel or Skull Catapult you've played, but they may not factor in a Wicked Reward.
One example of how I might use Wicked Reward is if you do, in fact, have a Fallen Angel in play. In my Reincarnation deck I like to sacrifice Nether Shadows to Fallen Angels during attacks. The Angel's ability gives her +2/+1 for each creature I sacrifice to her. If instead I sacrifice my Nether Shadow using Wicked Reward, I can then make my Fallen Angel the target creature and she gains +4/+2. This can be crucial if your opponent is counting on the Angel having a toughness of 3 or 4. Of course, the surprise factor is even greater with other creatures which are not normally pumpable. Using Wicked Reward to protect your Sengir Vampire in one attack will make him even larger for the next attack, provided he survives.
Another way I might use Wicked Reward is defensively. I may choose to block with a Nether Shadow, then sacrifice it to Wicked Reward to give another blocker the +4/+2. Thus rather than just blocking with my Nether Shadow and another creature and having both go to the graveyard, I have turned its demise to a greater advantage.
There are lots of other, fun ways to use Wicked Reward. Giving a first striking creature +4/+2 is always grand fun. It can also be used to boost a creature who you've sent through with a Dwarven Warrior or Tawnos's Wand. You could even use it in an act of desperation to boost one of your creatures during your opponent's turn if an they have an Orgg.
